The new species is named after the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wirbellose des Binnenlandes (abbr. AGW), a German workgroup working on freshwater invertebrates.
In living specimen M. agwi is showing a reddish-brown body coloration with a pale transverse bar running across the uropods and the distal part of the 6th abdominal segment.
